This isn't exactly a post on my struggle on battling with a very deadly disease. There're much more patients out there with much severe sickness that deserves everyone's attention and care. Here mine is a personal sharing blogpost on how I dealt with a disease that is quite commonly suffered by many people in tropical countries - Dengue.
I wasn't being hospitalized because I was given a choice by my consulting doctor not to. I felt grateful that the disease has only haunted me for 4 days as compared to my friend who's been hospitalized for 10 days.
It started with a day I came back from a morning jog on a public holiday Tuesday. I was feeling unusually lethargic after the jogging session. I tried taking a nap in the sofa but I couldn't fell asleep because I was feeling extremely uncomfortable. The fatigue got worse as hours passed then I discovered I was down with fever. I went to a doctor later that night and doctor said it was just some virus infections so I went back and sleep after taking the medicine prescribed.
It was one of the worst night I had because the suffering didn't get better but worse.
My body temperature was totally normal the next morning but the uncomfortable feelings didn't stopped haunting me. I felt unusually sore in the muscles and joints from especially behind my waist down to my feet. I went to a massage but it didn't helped. Later that night I was down with high fever at 39 degree celcius. My condition has worried a friend whom I was talking to that night whom has immediately brought me to the hospital nearby where I was treated with two injections that after that reduced my fever and pain.
This was the only drink (besides water) I "survived" on during my Dengue days. This is probably the worst beverage I had in life. I will never ever forget how bitter and weird these blended papaya leaves taste. Anyway, credit has to be given to them in bringing me back to health. Also FYI, this is what the doctor wants me to take at least twice to three times per day.
Since I was very young, I never look sick when I am sick unless I am very very very sick. I never liked being seen weak and sick so if I need to go out, I still go out with hair nicely blown and face nicely made-up. I will never want to stay home when I am sick because I think that'd worsen my condition so I'll usually hangout to meet people I want to meet (for as long as my disease isn't contagious), and eat everything I enjoy eating for as long as my appetite allows. Below were a few (not so) new restaurants I have visited during my days recovering from Dengue.
Zab Zab Boat Noodle
The fun of this comes from the small portions contained in each bowl. One bowl contains one mouthful that costs RM1.90. They came in two different soup based that I couldn't remember their name because we ordered everything. I love how the soup of these Thai dishes taste so well-cooked with spices. For a normal eater, 4 bowls might not be sufficient to fill your stomach. You probably need about 6-7 bowls.

These are probably the best oysters I had. They're really fresh and sweet in taste and I didn't tasted a little bit of "fishie-ness".
I went to Shucked in Gardens, Mid Valley with Wilee the day after she told me her dining experience at Shucked. I wasn't fully recovered from Dengue yet when I visited the oysters bar for the first time. I refused to stay home during sick days so I went out to have some walk.
The oysters here weren't cheap compare to those we usually had in buffet restaurants. They're sold in individual plate where one plate contained 3 pieces of oysters. They offered different types of oysters at price that varies according to the oysters' species, ranging from RM20+ per serving to RM50+ per serving. We chose the Coromandel New Zealand oysters (priced about RM28-30+) as recommended by the chef because they were this season's best.

After recovering from Dengue I learnt the importance of maintaining good health. I used to be really obsessed with living up to the standard of success that I always thought health comes secondary because once you have the money you're well-equipped with all that you need to cure whatever disease you later suffer.
But I was really wrong.
During the time I was sick I was at the same time shouldering some other life-related issues and I learnt that every problems that we faces everyday, no matter how bad they are, will eventually pass with time. But, the time take to recover from the suffer of health is much slower than you can ever imagined. One single day of suffering feels like months or even years depending on the severity of one's sickness.
I used to neglect stories and feelings of patients with severe disease ie. cancer because death seems so far from us that we never believe they will ever come close. But now I learnt how blessed we are to be able to live healthily. A healthy body gives you endless possibility to achieve things you want to achieve, to solve problems you need to solve and health is so precious that once taken away it might not be able to be how it once was.

These were the first thing that came into my mind when I got my appetite back. I bet you already know them, the famous Boat Noodle everyone's been talking about. My friend prefers the newly opened one in Kuchai Lama so we went to that one instead of the one in Empire Damansara. FYI, they are NOT the same although they are selling the same thing.

Besides fresh oysters, they also sell fresh Salmons. We chose one piece of Atlantic Salmon as recommended by the chef. With an additional RM10 the chef made them into really tasty grilled Salmon.
