How to Renew Driving License in Malaysia

If I hadn't listen to the radio every morning I wouldn't know there is an expire date for driving license.

Ikr, I am bimbo and hopeless like that.

I don't know about you but I had no idea how to renew a driving license because I haven't done so. I got my driving license a little bit late compare to peers my age because I was very busy juggling between studies and work during my late teen and had no time at all to attend driving lessons. This is why my license expiration only comes as I am approaching my thirty *ouch*. I went to my parents for advice but they had no clues how the actual procedures were like because they got agents to renew for them all the years. The only way left without having to ask anyone is to - Google! from the search engine result I could tell that there are quite some people like me who has no clue of the how-to, this is why I have decided to share my little experience here.

HOW AND WHERE TO?

#1 Hiring a runner/agent
Hiring an agent/runner is one way. You only have to pass your IC and driving license to the agent and they will get things done for you. Or, you can get your friends or family to do it on your behalf too. All you need is to furnish them with your original IC, passport sized picture and Driving License.

#2 Pos Office nearest to you
Driving License renewal can be done at your local post office. My renewal was rejected because I have not renewed my IC! Make sure you have your IC renewed before you go to the post office.

Opening hour: 8.30am - 8pm on weekdays, 8.30am - 5pm on Saturdays. Close on Public holiday and first Saturday of the month.

#3 JPJ
I failed the above all options because I did not get my IC renewed so I have to resort to this very last option. The only worried I had was that I wasn't on long pants that day as I wear slightly above knee length dress to work on a daily basis. But I was told by our company's driver that JPJ branches do not practice tight dress code regulations like that in the Wangsa Maju JPJ HQ. He was right and I got my driving license renewed at RM150 for 5 years at their branch located in UTC Sentul. Waiting time would be a little long during peak hour ie. lunch time so you may want to avoid.

Opening hours: click here to find out each branch's operation hour.

#4 Online
Some people got their license renewed at https://www.myeg.com.my/ but I am not sure how because I don't see links that'd link me to driving license renewal portal.

WHAT TO BRING?
#1 Original IC
#2 Passport sized photograph (This saves you from ugly license picture for the next couple of years)
#3 Existing Driving License
#4 CASH

HOW MUCH?
RM30 per year. Maximum 5 years. I got mine renewed for 5 years which summed up to RM150.

New driving license are printed on hard card unlike the previous distastefully laminated version. My picture here was overexposed because it was a scanned copy of my passport sized picture provided to them. I rather my license picture looks like this for the next 5 years than candid taken by the officers.

Driving license will now expire on your birth date so make sure to also check the expire date on your birthday!
