I've been hearing a lot about this Glutton Street in Muar and I've finally got the change to visit it few months ago during my trip to Muar. The buildings surrounded the streets reminded me of the streets behind the main junction of Petaling Street.
The last I visited was new year time so there were red tanglung hanging in the air. I am not sure if the tanglungs are there all year long or it was new year time. The street wasn't very long unlike our Connaught Pasar Malam. The entire structure of the street is a cross road like Petaling Street except that they sell only food. No pirated DVD no pirated branded bags.
Uncle Ng grew up in Muar. He told me that he never knew his hometown Muar has this good Hainanese bread where he never knew until recent years. There's this auntie he knew who stays in another state of Malaysia would travel all her way by bus to Muar to buy Muar's Hainanese Bread. Each time she came she'll bring a few packs. When asked why she said no where else in Malaysia sells better Hainanese bread than Muar. I doubt because how good can a Hainanese bread be? For as long as it's soft and fresh it's considered good but not until I tried the one sold in Glutton Street.
I tried pressing the bread and it didn't 'rebounce' anymore! the texture were really soft and milky. It beats the extraordinarily nice and super soft Hainese Bread Mum always buy from this auntie from Pasar nearby our house.
Muar is famous for its Otak-otak. I haven't tried these from Glutton Street but I believe most Otak-otak sold in Muar are generally better than those we found in KL. The difference were that you can still see fish flesh and sometimes grinded fish bones in them. I don't mean there weren't nice otak-otak in KL but nice one are very rare. Most of them came in very 'red' colour and was unnaturally sweetened with sugar. And you were basically eating fish paste in flat shape.
I'll get myself porridge if I do not have appetite. Here's one Pork intestines porridge.
