If you are on my Instagram you would see more food pictures than my selfies.

Why?

I used to post a lot of selfies in my early twenties but as I stepped into my late twenties I became less photogenic. My weight remains the same but my face has turned rounder and fats started accumulating on my tummy, arms and thighs :( Plus I do not use mtxx (mei tu xiu xiu) that much anymore and has lose patience in angling my pictures to get 1 good shot out of 100 taken so all my recent pictures are very - "me". And the "me" in reality is what you now see in my Instagram. I do pay a price for being "me" which is a drastic drop of likes on each picture posted and also see reduction on number of followers. But nevermind that, I am now working to add more useful contents to my social media accounts and I wish to attract people with similar interests.

So, why food pictures?

Because I love to eat! I cannot afford a luxury lifestyle nor fancy branded luxury products, I do not hang out with friends all the time because all of us are busy with our own life, I do not travel enough, you know lah corporate employees have restricted number of leaves so I cannot afford to go away from work too often *sobs*. Hence all the food postings otherwise my Instagram would be super quiet.

And why didn't I tag location for my food pictures? Instagram is a very dangerous place for girls to expose their whereabouts all the time (especially for pretty girls *flips hair*) BUT! I am happy to tell you where and how much the food are if you ask.

Being an impromptu and last-minute traveller I do not usually have ahead-trip plans except some rough ideas on what and where I want to visit. When it comes to food, other than exploring dishes near where my hotel is located, I Google for the best dishes in town. Besides reviews written by bloggers, other useful platforms are Tripadvisor and OpenRice.

I believe most people are familiar with how Tripadvisor works. Besides suggesting popular food places, it suggests and compare hotel and flight rates. TripAdvisor is useful as a general travel guide but when it comes to suggesting places for good food, OpenRice is the expert.

The mobile version of OpenRice is called OpenSnap. Here's how the app's logo looks like on my phone screen.

For example, I am now in Hong Kong and I would like to search for restaurant near me.

I change my City (ii) from my account by clicking the Setting button (i) on the top right of my homepage.

I then tap on the "Search" icon (iii) from the selection menu on the bottom of my homepage to choose which District (iv) I would like to visit. There, a list of suggested restaurants visited by other OpenSnap users will be displayed. I do not like dislike button on Facebook but I do not mind them on food portal because negative ratings by other users help me decide better on which restaurant to visit.

Other than filtering by District, filtration by Landmark and Cuisine are also available.

If you already know the name of restaurant you wanted to visit but is unsure of its ratings, you can type the restaurant's name into the Search column provided on top of Screenshot 5.

Tapping on filter button (v) allows a more precise filtering.

If you can't live without the internet, tapping the wifi button helps save your time looking for a restaurant with wifi!

You get a bigger picture of the District you choose by tapping the map button (vi) in screenshot 5. Say now I wish to dine in Lan Kwai Fong, I simply tap on any brown landmark sign and the name of the restaurant will show. Tap on the name of restaurant displayed at the bottom of your screen (Screenshot 6) and you are ready to view what you can expect from the restaurant!

If you wish to benefit the users of OpenSnap by providing information of a restaurant you have visited, you can create your own account and upload your photos. Photos can be not only dishes and food but your own selfies taken in the restaurant!

I have visited Cubs & Cups last night after dinner with my siblings and have taken some pictures. Instead of posting them onto my Instagram account I have posted them into my OpenSnap account. OpenSnap works like Instagram, filtration and editing are allowed on pictures uploaded.

OpenSnap does not only allow you to share informations of restaurants you have visited, like Instagram, you can like and comment on pictures shared by others. You can even make friends by adding people into your following list!

I do not tag location of my food posting on Instagram for other than the above said reason, I do not want to spam my Instagram account with too many food pictures taken in one same restaurant. OpenSnap automatically categorise pictures taken in one same restaurant into an album. Therefore I can now post multiple pictures taken in one same restaurant without feeling like a spammer. hehe.

You may add me @janeschwan to find out places I have dined in.

I hope this app benefits you like how it does for me :)
