A week ago on exactly the same day, I was in the boot camp preparing for the Grand Finale of Miss Malaysia Tourism 2013.

Little did I expect myself to become one of the shortlisted final 5 finalist.

It has always been my weakness to speak infront of a crowd of hundreds. So, to overcome that, I joined this pageant. But unfortunately, stage fright got me on that very night and I went blank the moment I stood infront of the microphone.

I assume that you don't need me to elaborate any further on why there were more deserving winners.

I congrat Thaarah on being crowned as the winner of the year!
On right was Renee Tan (1st Runner up) and left Jennifer Ling (2nd runner up).

Knowing Jennifer for the past 2 years, she has came a long way from being a model to now a beauty queen!

Here's a shot of myself during the introduction session.
On me was a qipao made with batik.

This picture was a snapshot extracted from SinChew on the 9th July 2013.
Dad went out and bought SinChew just to keep this page x)

Hair of the night.

I really love the little roses on my hair.
They were made with curled braids, a lot of bobby pins, hairspray and of course specially trained skills.

All thanks to Miko :)

How I wished I could bring this piece of Enya Mareine home.
After this I know who to go to if I need to rent a gown for special occasions, or during my BIG day.

Visit http://www.enyamareine.com/ for more.

Above were outfits during on stage performance.
We were asked to wear our own cocktail dresses during functions organized throughout the bootcamp.

Here's one dress I wore to a function.

Cocktail dress I got from Cocktail Evening.
I love their wide selection of cocktail and evening dresses.

Visit their website at www.cocktailevening.com for more selection.
Follow their Facebook fanpage for latest updates at https://www.facebook.com/cocktailevening?fref=ts.

I have made new friends. Each of them possess unique characteristic, personalities and talents.

Sitting in the middle was Jessica, we shared the same bed during the boot camp *blush*
I really love the unique cutting of her dress. I was impressed with her talent in designing this piece where she wore to the prom night at her college years ago and the dress hasn't gone out of fashion yet!

Here's the beautiful pharmacist Amanda Lee.
Amanda was one of my closest friend in the bootcamp. I was happy that the both of us made it to the Top 5 together. I love her composed, sexy and intelligent. FYI, She has been featured in one of the latest issue of FHM Malaysia!

Being part of a beauty contest for the right reason is something worth encouraging. I've learned how to carry myself better and learned the better way of communicating with others. Every girl is born beautiful in their own way. You might consciously or sub-consciously compare yourself to the beautiful women in fashion magazines or tv, or even the beautiful people you came across in your everyday life. You feel inferior and intimidated by their good looks. To see through this state of mind, these are merely how you judge yourself and it does not mean how you really appear to others. Sometimes, you might also be a target of admiration by the people you admire. You will never know.

I have learned my strength and weaknesses through this contest. Things on me that I used to see as flaws have now matter lesser. I believe being comfortable with your appearance and be who you really are affects how others look at you. Be you are plump, tall, short, skinny etc, you will be loved if you learned to love and accept yourself as who you already is. Moreover, what makes a person different isn't appearance itself but personalities and character. I am not sure if you have experienced this, you may realize your perception towards the appearance of certain people might change after knowing them personally. This is how you could change the way people look at you with you being true to yourself instead of allowing your appearance to determine your level of confidence.
