The war has already started during the time I was there but it was really peaceful in Kota Kinabalu. Even until now. Reason is that the war only affects those in Lahad Datu, which is closer to Tawau, Sipadan. So I guess my trip to Sipadan this coming April will have to be canceled.
I am feeling sad not for the reason that I have to cancel my trip to Sipadan but for those innocent lives that has been killed in humane and inhumane way in the war that is still on going. And the innocent people who has to runaway from their homeland to ensure their safety.
It has been peaceful there for so many years and now someone has decided to come spoil everything to fulfill their greed. History was in the past so for whatever reason it is, I believe no sensible person would think anyone should spoil the existing peacefulness and disturb this beautiful peace of land.
The moment I reached this junction, I know I am gonna fall for this place from head to toe toe to head already.
Of course we are not eating this for lunch.
I noticed that chillie sauce in Sabah are generally spicier than those we have here in KL. And they used to add vinegar into chillie sauce. The taste is very similar to when limes are added into chillie. Added with sourish scent and smell of vinegar.
I brought one bottle of their chillie paste home.
Sadly, my family doesn't enjoy it as much as I do :(
This is the way they have their fish head soup- with handmade noodles.
The texture and taste of the noodles are just like our handmade banmee- soft and 'Q', Q means bouncy among the Chinese.
Soup base- ABC soup minus corns.
Fish used was Grouper.
Fish skin.
Fish skin too if I am not mistaken.
No, they don't taste nor smell fishy.
Look at the flesh.
I am drooling looking at it now T-T It's really tender, zero fishiness and naturally sweet. Where I have not tasted anything fresher than this in KL.
This is another dish you musn't missed.
I do not know exactly how should I describe the texture of the noodles. It's like glass noodles but slightly more solid than that. Each strand of noodles were wrapped with egg yolks and egg whites adding a little crispiness to the noodles.
If I am not mistaken, the market only opens in the morning. I will talk about it in my upcoming post. We didn't spend a lot of time there because the sky was raining during our visit :(
There weren't a lot of mosques in Sabah but Churches.
Boyfriend said got beautiful story behind wan.
If my memory serves me right, the signboards were built by a rich man in Sabah who nearly lost his wife. He promised God to build signboards to churches along some roads in Sabah upon the recovery of his wife and later he has honored his promises.
Now I made it sounded so not romantic. Nevermind *rolledeyes*
Next on Pulau Sapi.

Look at the cotton-ish clouds that floats on the blue-ish sky.
No haze, just clarity.
Allow me to say hi first before I start my stories.
Don't blame me lah just trying to utilize my time waiting alone for my flight in the airport =/
The flight took 2 1/2 hours.
I am totally not an airplane person that is why I have not seriously thought about being an air stewardess even though friends think I should be one. Don't laugh if I tell you the reason why, because I am afraid of turbulence. My tears will pour uncontrolled each time it happens T-T
The one thing about the road in Kota Kinabalu is that, in every 100+ metres, you'll come to another roundabout.
Another roundabout.
Actually.. I wanted to have a photo collection of all the roundabout we passed by but I gave up after a few because there were too many already wtf
This was my first meal.
Of course we are not eating this for lunch.

They called this 'Special Fried Fish'.
Dishes cooked like these basically taste the same but not after you have tasted what cooked with quality ingredient.
Don't underestimate these normal looking buns!
This will be the only coconut bun I enjoy eating from then onward.
The goodness lies within the freshly grind coconut. Grind coconut like these turns me off because they are often made too sweet but this tastes just right.

See, they were so tasty even the driver has to abandon his car to search them from the plastic bag.
This is butter bun.
Look at how milky and soft the bun was made!
Remember this and go witness the unbeatable freshness of these buns!
Oh yes one last but most important thing I must mention, with quality like these, each buns cost only like RM1-RM3 :D
The thing about Sabah is that, not much cabs nor buses around so if you wanna have a good tour around the land, it is advisable for you to rent a car. Renting a car in Sabah is very much less expensive than renting one at KL. If I am not mistaken, at slightly a little bit more at a fraction of the price here.
After this we checked into our hotel located at Timesquare Kota Kinabalu.
This place wasn't very tourist friendly because public transports aren't conveniently reachable. But you get to have your basic daily groceries and meals fixed downstairs at the shoplots.
The hotel we stayed in on the first day was Kingston Hotel, cost at about RM100+ per night for a room sized like the below.
Small but comfy.
Not shabby.
A small work station facilitated with Wifi service.
To me, what matter most is the condition of the washroom.
A hotel's washroom must be clean and bright because this is where Mary, Suzie and Adam usually stucked in so must make sure it is not shabby. If you get what I mean *shivers*
I've never heard of anything called 生肉面 (Sang Nyuk Mee) until I watched a video entitled "Titanic Hakka Version" in Youtube.
After this I learned that Sang Nyuk Mee is one of the Sabahan's signature dish.
Sang Nyuk Mian means pork noodles in Hakka.
Just so you know, there are a lot of Hakkas in Sabah. Just like there are a lot of Hokkiens and Cantonese in KL.
This is another dish you musn't missed.
If you haven't tried Tuaran mee, you haven't been to Sabah.
I do not know exactly how should I describe the texture of the noodles. It's like glass noodles but slightly more solid than that. Each strand of noodles were wrapped with egg yolks and egg whites adding a little crispiness to the noodles.
It is my habit to have desserts after each meals especially when I am not at home. Desserts kill sorrows that's why.
You may want to try these if you love croissant.
Yoyo Cafe serves famous mini croissants in Sabah. Left one was coated with yummeh chocolate :9
One of their store can be located in Suria Mall, Kota Kinabalu.
These are just it before I draft the next post about our stay in Sutera Harbour.
Meanwhile, enjoy the scenes in the city of Kota Kinabalu.
This is where the famous Gaya Street market situated.
There aren't as much flyovers in Sabah as we have here in KL.
Suria Mall in Sabah.
The grafitti on pillars on an abandoned platform opposite Suria Mall.
There weren't a lot of mosques in Sabah but Churches.
I saw a lot of roadsigns to churches along the way to boyfriend's working site.
Boyfriend said got beautiful story behind wan.
